Merchant republics are boring to play. Its too easy to consolidate power and make an unimaginable amount of money. Consolidating power within a few generations can be pretty easy as a feudal lord, but as a merchant
$10 for trade posts and a very simple government election that relies on building trade posts for money to fund your campaign for re-election. Maybe a few paragraphs worth of events, if that. How exciting.
If you want to play as a merchant republic, get this. Doesn't add a lot, but they are pretty fun to play as and I have fond memories of dueling and killing my way to the top of Venice. It does, however, take a while to
If you already own all the DLC you'lll prob get this one too anyways, but if you're expecting much in the way of interesting new gameplay and whatnot, curb your expectations a bit. The actual mechanics of the merchant
