WELCOME TO EUROPA

Barotrauma is a 2D cooperative survival horror game set inside a submarine simulator, drawing inspiration from titles like FTL: Faster Than Light, RimWorld, Dwarf Fortress, and Space Station 13. Set in a sci-fi universe, it fuses ragdoll physics with deep-sea alien threats, intense teamwork, and the ever-present shadow of existential dread.

PLUNGE INTO THE UNKNOWN

In the near future, Earth's survivors have escaped to Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa. Beneath its radioactive surface lies a hidden ocean teeming with danger and mystery. Traverse this merciless aquatic frontier, interact with four distinct factions, and uncover what ancient secrets lie buried in the abyss.

PLEDGE LOYALTY OR BETRAY YOUR CREW

Barotrauma offers as many ways to thrive as there are to perish. Team up with your crew to complete critical missions, or secretly undermine them as a traitor hellbent on destruction. Play alongside friends, strangers, or even those you’d rather see drowned—everyone has a role to play, and a price to pay.

NAVIGATE, OPERATE, SURVIVE

Chart courses through treacherous underwater terrain, carry out vital missions for humanity’s remnants, investigate forgotten alien ruins, and face terrifying sea beasts. Manage key submarine systems including sonar, reactor controls, weapons, engines, and life support. Survival depends on coordination—and clear communication.

DESIGN, BUILD, INVENT

Master intricate wiring systems and dive into advanced crafting and medical mechanics. Design custom submarines or engineer new horrors using built-in editors that rival official content. For the truly bold, pull back the curtain—access the source code and dive into modding.

Features

  • Support for up to 16 players on a single sub, with AI bots filling roles in both singleplayer and multiplayer modes.
  • Choose from 6 unique classes—Captain, Engineer, Mechanic, Medic, Security Officer, and Assistant—each with specialized skills and responsibilities.
  • Progress through experience-based talents: unlock abilities and specialize your character with three distinct talent trees per class.
  • Faction-driven gameplay: build reputations with competing factions, influencing alliances, missions, and consequences.
  • A dynamic, procedurally generated world with varied missions and game modes ensures no two dives are ever the same.
  • In-depth crafting system: collect resources, craft gear, weapons, and medical supplies essential for surviving Europa’s depths.
  • Integrated editors for submarines, characters, and animations—create, share, and discover content through Steam Workshop.
  • All major game data stored in .xml files; full source code available on GitHub, empowering modders and developers alike.

After 400H this game still has new content for me, with its already long multichoice story where you can be the submariner that wants to help colonize this alien planet, or try and stop them, is a ton of fun and it can
