Description

Basic gameplay:

Automobile Tycoon is a business simulation game centered around managing a car manufacturing company, where players handle the development, production, and sale of vehicles. The game unfolds in turns and spans the evolution of the automotive industry from 1905 to 2020.

Mechanics:

- Turn-based structure with each turn representing one quarter of a year, ensuring a brisk and engaging pace
- Covers 115 years of automotive history, featuring key global events such as world wars, economic depressions, and inflation (optional to disable)
- Multiple starting eras available: 1905, 1920, 1948, 1960, and 1980
- Diverse vehicle categories including sedans, pickups, cabriolets, minicars, and more—new types unlock as the timeline progresses

Core design goals:

1. Emphasis on car company management (a tycoon experience, not a design sandbox)
The gameplay revolves around three central pillars: research and development, manufacturing, and sales distribution. Players begin by unlocking components and designing vehicles, then move on to building and upgrading factory infrastructure, and finally manage marketing and sales strategies. Supporting operations like tax obligations, employee wages, and bank loans add realism without overshadowing core company decisions.
2. Efficient, fast-moving gameplay (100 years in approximately 400 turns)
With each turn equaling three months, the game advances swiftly, compressing over a century of history into a concise play session. Historical events force recurring strategic shifts, and streamlined systems minimize downtime. The interface is designed for quick decision-making, reducing micromanagement while preserving meaningful choices.
3. Optimized and intuitive workflow
While full production freedom is available, the game encourages focusing on a lean portfolio to avoid excessive complexity. Strategic tools—like the “work overtime” toggle—allow rapid response to demand spikes with minimal effort. Introducing new models is simplified: set a base price once and apply broad regional discounts. No repetitive menu navigation or redundant settings—just smooth, strategic management.

NO. just no. There was a game released a couple of years ago called "Cars Incorporated" that the dev abandoned that this game seems to copy. The difference is this isn't ready to play, alpha or not. I am not paying to

This game is a huge fail. Even with loads of work I cant see it being any good. Its a really bad ripoff of a awesome game called Gear City. I have racked up 181 hours on that game and they are improving it all the time.

Well... it's not bad... but it's not good. I've burned quite a few hours in it, and keep coming back because I'm a car junky, but when I want that fix, I'm more often reaching for Automation, Gear City, or Production

Does a great job of recreating the feel of Detroit. An old DOS classic. Not quite a straight port, more an inspiration, but I enjoy the game and it has the scale/balance nice. Works well, few bugs.
