Description

Afterplace is a retro-style adventure built for wanderers who love getting gloriously, hopelessly lost. Set across a sprawling open world brimming with buried secrets, scattered treasures, and bizarre creatures, this game invites you to roam freely. Venture deep into dense forests, battle monsters lurking in the shadows, strike up conversations with suspiciously sketchy characters — or simply walk away from them mid-sentence. Lose your bearings so completely that you tumble right off the edge of reality and land somewhere else entirely. The wilderness conceals more than it reveals, trails vanish without warning, and the most well-hidden labyrinths and dungeons are tucked into forgotten corners. No waypoints exist here. Your path is yours alone to carve.
Afterplace aims to deliver something that feels simultaneously intimate and vast. Smooth, intuitive controls keep the focus squarely on discovery and exploration rather than wrestling with mechanics. NPCs are always up for a chat — though you're equally welcome to sprint right past them. You decide which story thread to pull, or whether to pull any at all (we accept zero responsibility for whatever happens should you choose to ignore the narrative entirely).

Approximately 10 hours of distinct gameplay content — considerably more if you spend half of it wandering in circles
No overworld map
A fully open world where every route can be tackled in whatever order suits you
A generous roster of allies, adversaries, and at minimum one individual who is somehow both
Weapon upgrade systems, purchasable armor, and the option to consume dangerous chemicals in the pursuit of raw power
Actually, there might be an overworld map
Multiple endings shaped by decisions you probably didn't even realize you were making
Around 25 distinct enemy types — pretty impressive, honestly
Hold on — that overworld map appears to be scrawled on a napkin in crayon. Disregard that.
Hidden passages leading to places that are completely normal and enjoyable, we promise
A cat that you can pet. Using your sword.
Those 25 unique enemies are genuinely remarkable creatures. Vibrant personalities. Not like other monsters at all.
At least two overworld maps.
About the Author:
Afterplace is a solo creation by Evan Kice, a former software engineer hailing from Austin, TX. He left his career behind in 2019 to dedicate himself entirely to developing the game. First launched on mobile in 2022, Afterplace delivered a genuine indie experience to a platform far more accustomed to hand-holding tutorials and aggressive microtransactions.
Evan continues actively refining and supporting Afterplace on PC, where it stands apart from the crowd: a lovingly handcrafted world with no guidance systems, hundreds of tucked-away scenes, and endless surprises dictated by who you speak to and how often you engage. No two runs through this world will ever unfold quite the same way.

User reviews
so i finished Afterplace. what a game huh. you know a game is really good when i exit it wanting to write a review now, i only got one ending, but it felt very much like The Ending, the big True Ending. so i feel safe
This is honestly a hidden piece of art, can't describe it any better way. The gameplay itself is good but nothing truly special. The story, world-design and exploration however absolutely blew my expectations.
Intriguing little experience. Very exploration-heavy adventure game, with lots of simplistically beautiful scenery and chockfull of lovely and witty characters. The combat is by no means hard. There have been only few
Absolutely love this game! It looks simple but there's so much to it. It would be lovely to be able to teleport but maybe I haven't unlocked that yet. If you enjoy this, I'd definitely recommend Moonlighter 1.
This is one of the best games that I have ever played, after picking it up for a pixelated style that I like, but after playing it I fell in love with the story and characters. The game is pretty easy to pick up but
Short and sweet little indie game, enjoyed it enough to finish one ending in pretty much 2 sessions, the later of which I was exited to get back into after doing work. It's not a very complex game, the combat is pretty
