You now have even more tools at your disposal as you guide your nation through the early modern world. As its name suggests, Mare Nostrum introduces new systems connected to naval warfare and control of trade. The power of your fleets will depend on the number of sailors your nation can gather, and your ships can now be given missions and areas to patrol. There are also new options for creating trade leagues, and a host of other improvements.

Weak tea. This should've been, 100%, part of a free update. The features, while good, are so unnoticeable I had forgotten they weren't part of the base game. Most of them are minor tweeks. The only real additions are

This one doesn't add anything for the player. The condottieri feature can be used as cheese to scam a country out of 15-40 gold. You'll rarely see the AI do it themselves. The other feature is the trade leagues. Which

Condottieri: -Any nation can 'rent out' a 20 unit army to almost any other nation. This can be useful if you want to attack your rivals or help an ally without getting attacked yourself. -I don't find the AI too
