About the Game

ARISEN - Chronicles of Var'Nagal is a deeply narrative experience where your inner emotions shape the journey, represented through a unique deck of evocative tarot-inspired cards. Each card unlocks choices that ripple through the story, altering relationships, environments, and destinies—while expanding your own evolving arsenal of emotional powers.

Once a civilian living in quiet solitude, you are seized by foreign soldiers and thrown into the depths of a warship, bound in chains beside a diverse group of captives—elves and humans alike. Sold into servitude on the mysterious island of Maccialatt, survival becomes your first act of defiance. Fueled by resilience, instinct, or brute strength, you begin a daring journey to reclaim your freedom—and forge your identity in a fractured world.

Along your path, you’ll meet souls from all walks of life—different races, ages, and genders—each carrying secrets, scars, and potential bonds. Some will earn your trust at once, others may reveal their truth only with time. Will you build friendships? Share a deep romance? Or cultivate rivalries that escalate into bitter enmity? The weight of connection is yours to wield.

  • Over 360,000 words featuring branching narratives, hidden paths, and dramatic plot twists to uncover!
  • An innovative emotional card system that empowers you to navigate the story with empathy and intent—choose through the lenses of Fear, Sorrow, Disgust, Anger, and Joy.
  • Six central characters await, each with intricate arcs shaped by five relationship paths: Lover, Friend, Neutral, Enemy, or Nemesis.
  • Explore the rich, evolving world of Var'Nagal, home to elves, lizardmen, gnomes, shapeshifters, and more—crafted to expand across future installments.
  • Immerse yourself in over a hundred beautifully illustrated scenes, rendered in a visual style inspired by Franco-Belgian comics.
  • Experience a spellbinding original soundtrack with over thirty tracks composed by Yann "Kayji" Rayon.
  • Grapple with moral complexity through decisions that challenge ethics, loyalty, and identity.
  • Download the Prologue for free—a demo featuring more than 30 minutes of playable content.

Don't bother buying this. It'd be a waste of money. The original developer company went bankrupt in June or may, maybe earlier and didn't decide to say anything on steam until September 12th. So don't bother expecting a

Unfinished game with no updates since the summer. :( Developers have said it is "on hold" until they can get more funding despite successful Kickstarter. Disregard the Early Access info as it hasn't been

The realtionships are superficial... So far it seems like it does not matter whether you are friend or foe with the characters... also you can be a friend for multiple missions to suddenly chance to neutral over one

ARISEN honestly felt like one of those games that could’ve been something really special. It’s a narrative-driven card game set in a dark fantasy world, where you use emotions as cards to shape the story, and that

A beautiful and compelling game, with a few frustrations. The frustrations are (largely) due to it being early access, which now the developers have bought back the game (after going bankrupt) can hopefully be fixed.

Not finished, most likely won't ever be. The characters suffer from adoring you unless you go out of your way to hurt them or fail their missions, but that is common to most narrative games. If it is ever finished, I
