Ampersat is an action-packed RPG that masterfully bridges the gap between retro gaming nostalgia and contemporary design. Drawing inspiration from classics like Gauntlet, Smash TV, Zelda, and Angband, this handcrafted adventure is a passion project from a single developer that will resonate deeply with Roguelite enthusiasts. Born from cherished childhood gaming memories, Ampersat delivers a compelling hybrid experience where you'll carve through hordes of monsters, amass mountains of loot, liberate imprisoned letters (yes, really!), and transform from a battle-worn warrior mage into an unstoppable force of destruction!
Main Features
More than 50 handcrafted levels, many with exploration and light puzzles
Optional endless procedural area
Original gameplay elements based around freeing and capturing letters
Flexible character progression with extensive skill tree
Hundreds of unique pieces of loot find, buy, sell and augment
Upgradeable town hub
Tackle stages in the order you choose
50 unique creature types with individual AI, 10 fiendish bosses
Drop-in local async co-op (and online using Steam Remote Play Together) - suitable for young players to team up with their parents
Sharp-eyed players will quickly spot that both the protagonist and enemies are represented as ASCII letters — a deliberate nod to the pioneering Rogue games of old. The inspired fusion of these text-based characters with vibrant, colorful 3D top-down environments was the very spark that ignited Ampersat's creation. Adding further retro flavor, authentic Commodore 64 SID chip sound effects are woven together with contemporary music to craft a truly distinctive audiovisual identity. Curious about the name? An "ampersat" is actually the leading candidate for the official name of the @ symbol!
Overview
The peaceful village of Gentlheim has fallen under siege by the tyrannical Lord Z, who has encircled it with five otherworldly towers and labyrinthine dungeons teeming with malevolent creatures. To make matters worse, he has stripped the villagers of language itself, leaving them unable to communicate! Stepping into the boots of Ampersat, a seasoned warrior mage, you must plunge into treacherous dungeons and scale perilous towers, cutting down Lord Z's endless hordes while recovering the stolen language so Gentlheim's citizens can once again speak — and ultimately stand with you against Lord Z himself.
Gentlheim
The village of Gentlheim serves as your central hub between adventures, offering shops where you can trade goods, an Inn where you can heal, level up, and bank gold safe from the clutches of death, and a mysterious Well descending into randomly generated procedural depths. Numerous structures throughout the village can be upgraded for gold, and as you restore language to the townspeople, you'll discover they have needs of their own... Gentlheim rewards curious explorers with hidden secrets and serves as your launchpad for tackling any stage in whatever order suits your playstyle — or revisiting conquered levels for another run.
The Well is where Ampersat's roguelike spirit truly shines, offering fast, intense loot-hunting dives once restored to working order. Ancient rumors speak of something extraordinary buried at its deepest point — though no adventurer has ever made it far enough to find out.
Co-op
Ampersat features genuinely seamless async co-op with true drop-in, drop-out freedom at any moment. A second player takes command of a fairy companion that orbits Ampersat and joins in the assault. Will you generously share your most powerful spell? You might not get a choice — the fairy has been known to swipe spells regardless. While the fairy's attacks are less potent and contribute to overheating, it compensates with the remarkable perk of complete invulnerability. The ideal companion... provided you can keep the peace.

Neat little game with some great ideas. Being able to read the UI being part of the meta-progression is a unique one, and there are some cool level gimmicks that caught me off guard. Music is a little repetitive but

Fun simple Dungeon Crawler. Very few complaints. Getting stuck on walls sucks when dashing, it'd be nice if it just pushed you on a tangential vector instead of stealing your dash completely. Letter cramming becomes a

I enjoyed the gameplay, but it was a little short. Everything about it is cool, except my weapons kept disappearing after every second level. But after i got the legendary items it became so much easier. Game is
